Liu Kuo-sung: Experimentation as Method is a major retrospective show that celebrates the ink master’s artistic career spanning 70 years, from the 1950s to 2020. With a selection of over 60 works tracing his creative evolution, the show highlights the artist’s significant innovations in modern Chinese ink painting. Liu explored different materials and textures, and even invented “Liu Kuo-sung paper.” He continuously reconstructs tradition with the modern, enabling the creation of a new approach to the time-honoured practice of Chinese ink painting.
