The microsite offers selected highlights from Living Pictures: Photography in Southeast Asia, a catalogue accompanying the exhibition of the same name held from 2 December 2022 to 20 August 2023 at National Gallery Singapore. The exhibition offered a captivating journey through photography’s evolving roles in the region. Spanning more than 150 years, it traced the medium’s transformation from a European exploratory tool to a medium of fine art and digital ubiquity. Visitors explored artistic and documentary influences of photography through various lenses, including colonial explorations, studio portraits, wartime narratives and the contemporary digital age of memes and selfies. Though the exhibition has concluded, the catalogue Living Pictures, available in both print and eBook formats, continues to offer insights into the compelling history of photography and its pervasive impact on cultural and individual identities.
