Ngee Ann Development’s S$16 million contribution will support the Gallery in building an inspirational environment that cultivates a greater appreciation of the art of Singapore and Southeast Asia for generations to come. It marks the corporation’s first donation to a visual arts institution in Singapore, and an extension of its longstanding mission to strengthen the arts and education.
In appreciation of this generous donation, the Gallery’s auditorium, foyer and Concourse Gallery 1 were named The Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditroium & Foyer and The Ngee Ann Kongsi Concourse Gallery respectively.
A space designed to stimulate thought and foster community bonds, The Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium & Foyer has hosted lectures and seminars featuring thought leaders and luminaries in the arts. It has also held several community programmes including the Singapore International Children’s Film Festival and Arts & Disability Forum 2016. The Ngee Ann Kongsi Concourse Gallery presents changing exhibitions that spotlight selected artists from the Gallery’s long-term exhibitions. Its inaugural exhibition was a major survey featuring close to 200 works of master potter Iskandar Jalil.
