Scope and Content
Photographic documentation of the construction process for "Pembebasan Irian Barat" by Edhi Sunarso. Completed in 1963, the sculpture was commissioned by Indonesia's first president Sukarno to commemorate the liberation of West Papua by Indonesian revolutionary forces from Dutch colonial rule, an annexation which has since been a subject of controversy. The photograph captures the members of the construction team at work.
