The UOB Southeast Asia Gallery is temporarily closed and will reopen in late 2027. In the meantime, works from the National Collection remain exhibited across the Gallery.

This is the main website for National Gallery Singapore.

 

How you should be able to use this website

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. You should be able to:

  • Zoom in up to 200% without text spilling off the screen.
  • Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software.
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader, including the most recent versions of: JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver (iOS and iPadOS), and TalkBack (Google and Samsung versions).
  • Access content written in plain, understandable language.

 

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible. For example:

  • Some images, especially archived content, may not have meaningful alt text descriptions.
  • Some form fields, such as search bars, are not consistently detectable to assistive technologies.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

This website was tested against the Level AA standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, and was found to be partially compliant.

 

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

  • Some images, especially archive content and search results, may technically contain alt text. However, these descriptions are not always meaningful. For example, the alt text description may be a repetition of the title of the art piece (e.g. "Gardens 1985"), and does not further describe the visual characteristics of the image. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1: Non-text content.
  • The search bar under Search Results is not consistently interactable with assistive technologies. Focus can often be obtained when first loading the page, but when users exit the search bar and attempt to re-enter, the form field disappears from detection to assistive technologies such as screen readers and voice command tools. It also is no longer interactable using the tab key on the keyboard. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 2.1.1: Keyboard, and 4.1.2: Name, role, value.
  • On the Donate page, form fields in the donation form have some issues:
    • When one of the buttons for dollar amounts is selected (e.g. $10), the text box updates with the new number, but this change in status is not communicated to screen reader users. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.3: Status messages.
    • Buttons for selecting donation frequency (e.g. monthly, annually, one-off) and donation type (individual, corporate) do not communicate their selection state to screen readers. In other words, screen reader users get no indication of whether a button is selected, or unselected. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2: Name, role, value.
    • The section featuring recent donations automatically refreshes with no method of pausing. When the refresh occurs, this can cause the focus for keyboard and screen reader users to move erratically. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 2.1.1: Keyboard, and 2.2.2: Pause, stop, hide.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

National Gallery Singapore is committed to providing digital experiences that are accessible to all. We are also:

  • Ensuring that all new components are built to the highest WCAG standards possible.
  • Continuing to test new web features and digital content with diverse audiences.
  • Revising our best practices followed by staff and vendors to include more comprehensive accessibility considerations, in the areas of website design and digital content creation.
  • Raising general accessibility awareness across both staff and vendors for National Gallery Singapore.
