A note from our Gallery curators and educators
Art tells us many different stories about our world. Throughout history, artists have been inspired by diverse topics and subject matters. Some images in our collection may require a parent, teacher, or adult to guide younger children in meaningful interpretation and appreciation.
For example, you will find that artists often use the human figure as a way of studying human anatomy. The nude is an important genre in art, celebrating the human body as a symbol of beauty, freedom, and strength.
When you come across images of nudity in art, take the opportunity to talk with younger ones about how artists use the figure in art to invite discussions on enduring topics such as ideals, symbols, and representations.
Programmes & resources for educators
We offer workshops and activities for educators to deepen their understanding of the Gallery’s modern Southeast Asian art collection, and explore methods for teaching art.
