Artist Hong Zhu An’s ink works convey a modern sensibility. While his visual language can be traced back to Chinese philosophical tradition, Hong has gradually broken away from the iconography of classical Chinese ink paintings, and transformed the subtle tension between paper and ink to a quieter, distilled expression — a language of his own.
In this conversation with curator Jennifer K. Y. Lam, Hong will share reflections on his artistic journey and the evolution of his ink practice that continues to explore, question, and reimagine what Chinese ink painting can be.
*The conversation will be delivered in Mandarin with simultaneous interpretation (Mandarin to English) available on site.
