To celebrate the presentation of Art Labor’s most ambitious art installation to date, Angin Cloud, join us for special journey by the artists’ collaborators, musicians from the Jrai community. Led by the esteemed Jrai musician Rcham Tih, the musicians will be playing traditional wooden Jrai wooden instruments. These instruments are similar objects to the Jrai sculptures that have been included in Angin Cloud’s year-long installation.
This performance seeks to celebrate and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Jrai people through the artistry of traditional melodies and rhythmic expressions. The performance is not only an artistic presentation, but also an educational endeavour, offering audiences a deeper understanding of the Jrai’s musical traditions, social values, and identity.
Following the performance, Art Labor and the artists will converse with curator Kathleen Ditzig, about the making of Angin Cloud, its future life in Vietnam and the legacies of Jrai sculpture that the installation embodies. This conversation will interrogate and reveal the artists’ and museum’s attempt at fostering a radical museology that aspires to new models of sustainability.
