Sigma Contemporary Dance – Body History (Apr – Jun 2023)

Sigma Contemporary Dance presented Body History, a multi-programme response to the exhibitions Living Pictures: Photography in Southeast Asia and Siapa Nama Kamu? Art in Singapore since the 19th Century.

Drawing inspiration from the manifold applications of photography, Sigma explored the use of bodily movement as an intricate and intimate means of preserving and expressing our inconstant identities. Through a series of performances and workshops, their residency brought audiences on a journey of using one’s body as a powerful tool to capture memories and experiences.

Body History by Sigma Contemporary Dance was supported by the Mingxin Foundation.

About the artist

Sigma Contemporary Dance is an independent dance collective from Singapore. Its members are from diverse backgrounds and experiences with a common interest in seeking jubilation through dance. Since 2011, Sigma has been creating original works that are relevant and relatable, immersive and thought-provoking, and that span across different platforms and spaces. The collective emphasises collaborative efforts in its creation process. It also constantly seeks to connect with individuals of various disciplines who enjoy the freedom to improvise within structures, thus creating works that are honest, intuitive and original.
