Mohammad Din Mohammad (محمد دین محمد) (1955–2007) studied at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. He was an artist, traditional healer, guru silat (Malay martial arts master), writer and collector of Southeast Asian objects. Above all, he was a Sufi mystic. This mystical form of Islam deeply informed all aspects of his life and art.

The Mistaken Ancestor charts the synthesis of Mohammad Din Mohammad’s art, healing and collecting practices over four decades. Presenting paintings, assemblages and extensive materials from the artist’s personal archives, the exhibition offers insights into his life-long commitment to harnessing different facets of Sufi mysticism for the rejuvenation of the human body and spirit in contemporary Singapore.
