What can a sound tell us? How does it move across bodies, places, and time, shaping resonances of identity in the present?

Foot/notes on Sound invites us to reimagine sonic traces in Southeast Asia, exploring sound works and archives shaped by displacement, belonging, and transmission in the region. Amsterdam-based artist-scholar meLê Yamomo will share insights on the sonus, body, and sound, tracing how histories continue to resonate even after sound itself has “died.” Drawing from archival Hakka folk songs, Singapore musician weish explores how her musical practice engages migratory histories that continue to reshape identity in a post-migrant context. This conversation is Moderated by Curator Kathleen Ditzig and presented in conjunction with Temple by Tuan Andrew Nguyen, where unexploded ordnance from Quảng Trị, Vietnam, are transformed into instruments that reframe histories of trauma.
