The UOB Southeast Asia Gallery is temporarily closed and will reopen in late 2027. In the meantime, works from the National Collection remain exhibited across the Gallery.

Moderated by exhibition curator Kathleen Ditzig, this panel brings together independent researcher Andrew Ng, June Chua, founder of The T Project, and artist Marla Bendini, all of whom are closely connected to the making of Passion is Volcanic: Desire in Southeast Asian Art (R18).

From archival photographs to contemporary portraits and paintings, the speakers will share images that investigate the lived realities of gender-diverse communities in Singapore, exploring how acts of image-making, preservation, and self-representation become sites of transformation. The panel foregrounds the role of image-making and the recovery of image in queer and trans histories, considering how images, archives, and acts of self-fashioning contribute to broader representation and narratives of gender-diversity within Singapore art history.

Please note that the programme is open to visitors aged 18 and above only. Valid ID may be required for age verification at the entrance.
