Fervid: A Vision of Love in Flames | A Response to Passion is Volcanic by Jaya Jacobo

Trans feminist poet and theorist Jaya Jacobo navigates the seismic entanglements of gender and climate through a rapturous engagement with Passion is Volcanic. Responding to the catastrophic fervour proposed by the exhibition, she offers tropical fragments of a trans amorous discourse that deliberately mis-apprehends desire as depicted in painting, sculpture or costume. 

This performance lecture is an elaboration of her enduring tryst with reverie as a procedure of theory and poetics, which evokes the borderlands of a trans genre to come. Jacobo asks: When desire is given a chance to become love, will its transfigured state be solitary or solidary? Is it to be embraced alone, or with community? Where can we locate the quake of a possibility for one, neither, or both?
