Discover history and architecture

White Corinthian columns on gallery building exterior

The Former Supreme Court Balcony offers a closer look at the building’s grand exterior. Look up to see the Corinthian columns and tympanum, along with five bas-relief panels depicting scenes of colonial life in Singapore. It’s a wonderful spot to pause, soak in the city’s history, and snap some memorable photos.

Supreme Court Terrace with natural sunlight filtering through rooftop overlooking Rotunda dome

Although the Rotunda Library & Archives is temporarily closed, you can still admire its majestic dome up close from the Supreme Court Terrace on Level 4. Sunlight filters through the filigree canopy above, casting a delicate play of light and shadow across the historic space. These beautifully restored areas highlight Singapore’s heritage — and offer some seriously Instagram-worthy moments.

Tip: The Supreme Court Terrace is occasionally closed for private events. Check with our friendly guides if it’s open on the day of your visit.

Visitor standing and viewing exhibits from Listening to Architecture

Head to Level 4 of the City Hall Wing to explore the ArchiGallery and discover Listening to Architecture: The Gallery’s Histories and Transformations. This free exhibition reveals how City Hall and the Former Supreme Court were transformed into National Gallery Singapore, showcasing spaces that have witnessed defining moments in the nation’s history — from the Japanese surrender in World War II to the swearing-in of Singapore’s first Prime Minister.

Following a decade-long restoration, these historic buildings now house one of the world’s largest collections of Southeast Asian art, seamlessly blending Singapore’s architectural heritage with the city’s modern creative spirit.

Visit Fear No Power: Women Imagining Otherwise

A woman observes artwork in the Ngee Ann Kongsi Concourse Gallery, featuring works by five pioneering Southeast Asian women artists.

Located at the Ngee Ann Kongsi Concourse Gallery in the City Hall Wing, this exhibition brings together five pioneering women artists from across Southeast Asia — Amanda Heng, Dolorosa Sinaga, Imelda Cajipe Endaya, Nirmala Dutt, and Phaptawan Suwannakudt. Their practices span decades of change, shaped by personal histories, political shifts, and the communities around them.

As you move through the space, you’ll encounter paintings, sculptures, photographs, performance documentation, and archival materials that reveal how each artist has navigated and challenged the world around them. Together, they offer different ways of imagining power — not just as something political, but as something personal and deeply human.

An easy addition to your day at the Gallery, the exhibition runs from 9 January to 15 November 2026.

Take in the view at the Roof Garden

Visitors interacting with elements at the Temple installation

Head up to Level 5 and discover the Ng Teng Fong Rooftop Garden, a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city. As you wander, take in views of the Civic District skyline — along with Temple, the Gallery’s first interactive sound-art installation by Tuan Andrew Nguyen. Presented as the 8th Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Commission and co-presented with the Singapore Art Museum for the 8th Singapore Biennale 2025, this immersive installation runs through 11 October 2026.

Tip: Borrow a mat and take a seat to soak in the meditative sounds — it’s a serene experience that blends art and atmosphere.
