The UOB Southeast Asia Gallery is temporarily closed and will reopen in late 2027. In the meantime, works from the National Collection remain exhibited across the Gallery.

Resonates With Residency

This residency programme invites local performing artists to respond to works and themes from the Gallery’s long-term exhibitions.

Current artists in residence

Resonates With Residency 2026 brings together two artists to respond to the Gallery’s permanent exhibition – Singapore Stories: Pathways and Detours in Art.

The residency kicks off with individual open studios, giving audiences a first glimpse into each artist’s creative process, and a chance to share feedback as the work takes shape. Next, the artists collaborate, offering a combined open studio before presenting a work-in-progress showcase.

The residency culminates in a final performance at Light to Night Singapore 2027, showcasing the journey from initial exploration to fully realised performance.

Experience creativity in action, see ideas evolve, and be part of the artistic journey.

The Forces Between

Many of the artworks in this gallery explore movement within a still image. While a painting can suggest motion, it remains fixed in place. In this performance, Leo and the dancers of bonsai transform these compositions into living, moving forms – tracing pathways, rhythms, and relationships that continuously shift through space.

As they journey through the gallery, the dancers respond to selected artworks through improvisation. Drawing from a movement language that bridges street and contemporary dance, they bring to life the forces embedded within each work, the wind, energy, space, and rhythm imagined by the artists.

At selected moments, audiences are invited to participate, initiating a movement, joining a collective action, or becoming part of the unfolding experience. Through this shared encounter, the gallery becomes a space where art is not only observed, but embodied.

Resonance With: What We Have to Offered

Inspired by four selected artworks from Singapore Stories: Pathways and Detours in Art, Nabillah invites audiences into a roving musical experience where visual art, live music, and collective reflection come together. Joined by a multiethnic ensemble featuring the dizi, accordion, erhu, bonang, and saxophone, she responds to each artwork through original musical interpretations, uncovering themes and stories that resonate with contemporary life.

As the performance moves through the gallery, audiences are invited to engage with prompts, share their thoughts on Post-it notes, and contribute to a growing collective conversation. Through these exchanges, the open studio explores a simple yet meaningful question: What do we each have to offer, and how might we use our gifts, experiences, and creative voices to contribute to our communities?
